Multiplication and Division Fact Family Generator

The same structure applied to multiplication and division. For many children this is the moment division stops being frightening, because it becomes a multiplication fact read in a different direction.

  • Fact family house, number triangle, or plain layout
  • Factors drawn from the times tables
  • Give all three numbers, or only the two factors
  • Answer key writes out all four facts

How to get the most from these worksheets

A few things worth knowing before you print a stack of them.

The fastest route to division fluency

A child who knows 6 x 7 = 42 already knows 42 divided by 7. Fact families make that link explicit rather than leaving it to be discovered, which is why they usually produce a faster jump in division than division drills do.

Pair it with a times-table sheet

Add a multiplication section to the same worksheet covering the same table. The recall practice and the relationship practice reinforce each other on one page.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from a division worksheet?

A division worksheet practises the operation. A fact family shows why the answer is what it is, by tying it back to a multiplication fact the child already knows.

Which times tables are used?

The difficulty setting controls the factor range, from 1 to 5 at the easiest up to 6 to 20 at the hardest.
