Handwriting practice with real dotted letterforms. The traced letters are the actual outlines of the font you choose — not clip art — so what a child traces matches what they are asked to copy.
A few things worth knowing before you print a stack of them.
Letters that share a movement should be taught together: c, a, d, g, q all begin with the same anticlockwise curve. Teaching A, B, C in order pairs three completely unrelated movements. Use the “Start from position” setting to work through your own grouping.
The School Print face uses a single-storey a and g, matching how children are taught to write by hand. Most standard fonts use a two-storey a, which does not, and children then copy a shape they will never be asked to produce.
Tracing eight copies of a letter becomes mechanical after the third. Two or three traces followed by a blank ruled row demands recall, which is where the learning actually happens.
Four-line handwriting books colour the outer pair red and the inner pair blue, and children are taught to keep the body of each letter inside the blue band. A worksheet ruled in plain grey throws that cue away. Set the guide line colour to Notebook and the sheet matches the book they write in every day, so the instruction “stay between the blue lines” still means something.
